New Delhi, March 11 The government said on Wednesday that the cooperative ride-hailing service, Bharat Taxi, will be expanded to all major cities and towns in the next 2-3 years.

In response to questions about job creation by cooperative societies in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Cooperation Krishan Pal said Bharat Taxi was started to empower drivers and increase their income.

"It can be easily booked through the mobile app. It provides full security and complete transparency. It is also integrated with the Delhi Police," Pal said.

The minister said that Bharat Taxi is operational in Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Somnath, and Dwarka in Gujarat.

"In the next two or three years, we will expand the service to all major cities and towns. I would like to inform the House that up to now, 4 lakh drivers have been registered with it," Pal said.

Last month, Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched Bharat Taxi, the country's first cooperative-run ride-hailing platform.

The Bharat Taxi platform, established by India's top eight cooperative organisations, including the major dairy Amul, will significantly enhance drivers' income, in addition to giving them ownership.
