New Delhi, March 30 The meeting of the Delhi Municipal Corporation's Standing Committee, in which nine members were scheduled to retire, was adjourned on Monday amid protests by opposition councillors.
Councillors from the Aam Aadmi Party alleged that the House had not provided minutes of the last Standing Committee meeting, which was in violation of rules.
They also alleged corruption amounting to Rs 650 crore in the extension of bio-mining contracts at the landfill sites of Okhla, Bhalswa, and Ghazipur, stating that the Standing Committee had not given financial approval for such extensions.
AAP councillor and Standing Committee member Praveen Kumar alleged that the committee's rules were violated as minutes of the last meeting were not provided, and the extension of contracts was provided without discussing the matter in the Standing Committee.
Officials said that the adjournment of the Standing Committee meeting has left them in a difficult position, as half of the members were scheduled to retire in the current meeting, and that not happening leads to a violation of the law.
"If the decision is not made by Tuesday, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, under Section 487 of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957, may have to intervene in the matter," an official said.
