Opposition leader in the Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi appeared in a court in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, today to provide a new surety in a defamation case filed against him in 2014 by an RSS activist. The Bhiwandi magistrate's court had requested Mr. Gandhi to provide a fresh surety, as former Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, who had acted as his guarantor, passed away last December. Rajesh Kunte, an activist from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, filed a complaint in the court alleging that the Congress leader made objectionable statements against the RSS during an election rally in Sonale village in 2014.
