Court Directs Action After Petition on Prayer Restrictions.webp

Prayagraj (UP), March 23 The Allahabad High Court on Monday directed the district magistrate and senior superintendent of police of Bareilly to appear before it on March 25, after the government denied the allegation of a petitioner that he was prevented from offering prayers in his home.

A bench comprising Justices Saral Srivastava and Garima Prashad gave the direction in response to a petition filed by Tariq Khan, who has alleged that authorities did not allow him to perform prayers on February 16 inside his house.

On Monday, appearing on behalf of the state, Additional Advocate General Anup Trivedi informed the court that they had never interfered with the prayers and that 50 people were regularly performing prayers there.

Earlier, on February 12, the bench had granted time to the state's counsel to file their response.

It had also issued notice to the district magistrate and senior superintendent of police Bareilly for contempt action for "disobeying" the court's order dated January 27, 2026, passed in the case of Maranatha Full Gospel Ministries vs. The State of U.P. and 2 others.
