Ahmedabad, February 17 Six courts in Gujarat received bomb threats via email on Tuesday, prompting authorities to conduct thorough searches, officials said.
So far, nothing suspicious has been found, they said.
The courts in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Valsad, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, and Mehsana received the threat emails, according to officials.
An email sent to the Vadodara district court claimed that 19 bombs were planted on the premises, a police official said.
"The email threatened to bomb the court premises before lunchtime. The sender criticized a judgment by a Tamil Nadu court in the email. A team consisting of the Vadodara SOG, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), Dog Squad, local police, and a team of cyber experts reached the spot around 11 am. The court premises were cordoned off and nothing suspicious was found," said DCP, Zone 2, Manjita Vanzara.
In Valsad, 19 courtrooms of the district court were evacuated after an email claimed that 19 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) had been planted on the premises, which would explode before afternoon prayers, said Valsad Superintendent of Police Yuvrajsinh Jadeja.
Nothing suspicious was found during the search, he added.
The district courts of Rajkot, Gandhinagar, and Ahmedabad were also evacuated on Tuesday morning, but nothing suspicious was found, officials confirmed.
In the afternoon, the Mehsana district court also received a bomb threat email, after which it was evacuated.
A thorough search was underway with the help of the BDDS, the dog squad, and the local police. Nothing suspicious has been found yet, said Mehsana SP Himanshu Solanki.
On Monday, 34 schools in Ahmedabad and Vadodara in Gujarat received bomb threat emails, following which the campuses were evacuated.
The emails turned out to be hoaxes, as nothing suspicious was found in any of the 34 schools – 17 each in Ahmedabad and Vadodara.
