Kolkata, February 17 The parents of a female medical student who was raped and murdered inside the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in August 2024, moved a court here on Tuesday, requesting that those present with her during the night shift on the day of the incident be interrogated to investigate the "larger conspiracy" angle.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the CBI investigation, which stated that civic volunteer Sanjay Roy was the sole perpetrator, the victim's parents said that the Kolkata Police officer involved in the initial investigation should also be questioned to probe the "larger conspiracy angle," which was "overlooked" in both the investigations conducted by the city police and the central agency.
"We are firmly of the opinion that only Sanjay Roy cannot be solely responsible for the brutal attack on our daughter, who was killed while performing her duty at her workplace. There were others involved, and we are requesting the Sealdah court to take all of them into custody and interrogate them," her father told reporters.
He said that although the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has claimed that a polygraph test has conclusively proven the involvement of only Sanjay Roy, such a test cannot be cited as irrefutable evidence, as mentioned in several past court orders in the country.
"We have requested the court to look into our petition and the theory of a larger conspiracy. The petition has been accepted," he said.
The distraught parents had recently participated in a rally on the birth anniversary of the victim.
