Jhansi, March 12 A local court on Thursday sentenced a 30-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 25,000 for raping a college student in the Kotwali area of the city in 2022.
After the trial, the court of Additional District Judge-II, Anubhav Trivedi, found the man guilty and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
However, the court acquitted the other family members of the convict after the charges against them could not be proven during the trial.
Government counsel Devendra Panchal said the incident came to light after a complaint was lodged at the Kotwali police station on August 7, 2022.
In her complaint, the undergraduate student alleged that her neighbor frequently harassed her and followed her while she was going to and from college.
On one occasion, when she was alone at home, the accused entered her house and raped her, she alleged.
The victim initially remained silent, fearing social stigma, but later approached the police after receiving threats from the accused and his family members.
Police had registered a case against the accused and four of his relatives under various sections of law.
