Thiruvananthapuram, March 13 CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan on Friday indicated that the LDF was unconcerned with former party leader G Sudhakaran contesting as an independent candidate from the Ambalapuzha assembly constituency, as it was a sitting seat of the Left front, and expressed confidence of a win there.

Govindan was responding to reporters' queries, at a press conference here, regarding Sudhakaran's decision to contest as an independent candidate from the Ambalapuzha seat in Alappuzha district.

He said that Sudhakaran left the party on his own without renewing his membership, and if he was contesting as an independent, that was his right, and the CPI(M) had no say in the matter.

Asked whether the party would try to pacify him and bring him back into the fold, Govindan indicated that there would be no such move by the CPI(M).

Regarding the party's chances in the Ambalapuzha assembly constituency in the current scenario, the CPI(M) state secretary said that it was a sitting seat of the LDF, which would have a resounding victory there.

Sudhakaran had been a prominent face of the CPI(M) in the coastal district for several decades and previously served as a state minister.

Known for his clean image and administrative experience, he recently said he would not renew his party membership.

The former minister alleged that a section of CPI(M) cadres had been targeting him with personal attacks on social media, which contributed to his decision to distance himself from the party.
