The highly anticipated YSS–JKSC Cricket League officially began in Jammu, with Minister for Youth Services and Sports Satish Sharma formally inaugurating the tournament at Maulana Azad Stadium.
The Minister unveiled the tournament trophy and distributed team jerseys among the participating teams, marking the start of the cricket league, which has seen participation from 18 teams. The league is being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council under the auspices of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Jammu and Kashmir.
The matches will be played under floodlights at the stadium, adding to the excitement for spectators. All the games will also be live-streamed on YouTube, enabling cricket enthusiasts from across Jammu and Kashmir and beyond to follow the tournament.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Secretary, J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul, senior officers of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, representatives of sports associations, and several renowned sportspersons. A large crowd of cricket enthusiasts also gathered at the stadium to witness the launch of the league.
Speaking on the occasion, Satish Sharma said that sports have the power to shape character, promote discipline, and foster unity among young people. He stated that the government is committed to strengthening sports infrastructure and providing greater opportunities for young athletes across the region.
He added that the YSS–JKSC Cricket League would serve as an important platform for aspiring cricketers to showcase their talent and gain exposure, while also promoting the emerging sports culture in the region.
The Minister also praised the achievement of the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team in winning the prestigious Ranji Trophy, describing it as a proud and inspiring moment for the entire region.
Reiterating the demand for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, the Minister said it would strengthen governance and accelerate development in the region.
The league offers attractive prize money, with ₹3 lakh for the winning team and ₹1.5 lakh for the runner-up, in addition to several individual awards, including ₹20,000 for the Man of the Series.
