Cricket Tournament Promotes Sports and Drug Awareness in Kathua.webp

The Kathua District Administration, in collaboration with the Kathua Social Welfare Department, launched the Open District Cricket Tournament as part of the "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan" (Drug-Free India Campaign). Inaugural matches were held across various subdivisions of the district.

Organized under the direction of Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma, the tournament aims to promote sportsmanship and raise awareness against drug abuse among youth through constructive engagement.

In Billawar, under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner Vinay Khosla, two matches were played at Bhaddu Playground. A.K. Billawar defeated United II Billawar in the first match, while M.K. Deccan Charges Billawar won against Ramkot Cricket Club in the second match.

In Basohli, inaugural matches were held at the Government Model Higher Secondary School, under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Bhagotra. Plassi Cricket Club defeated Game Changer CC Mahanpur, and Basohli Warriors won against United Hut.

At Hiranagar's Sai International Stadium, supervised by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Phulail Singh, Hiranagar Cricket Club and Mukesh II Cricket Club emerged victorious in their respective matches. Meanwhile, at Degree College Bani, under Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sandeep Kumar, Bani defeated Duggan, and Backen triumphed over Lowang.

Refreshments were provided to the players and officials. The tournament will continue in the coming days, culminating in a grand finale at the district headquarters.

Officials reiterated their commitment to engage youth in positive activities and strengthen the fight against drug abuse through sustained sports initiatives.
