Chandigarh, February 28 The Punjab Police has arrested 10 individuals after dismantling two organized cross-border drug and illegal arms smuggling modules, a top official said on Saturday.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were in contact with Pakistani-based smugglers through social media platforms, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.

Heroin and illegal weapons were being smuggled into Indian territory and further distributed across different areas through a well-organized network, he said.

"In a major breakthrough, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted two organized cross-border drug and illegal arms smuggling modules and apprehended a total of 10 accused, recovering 5.438 kg of heroin, 3 sophisticated pistols (one Glock 9mm, one Zigana 9mm, and one .32 bore), 34 live cartridges, and Rs 4500 worth of drug money," the DGP said in a post on X.

Multiple FIRs have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Arms Act. Further investigations are underway to establish forward and backward linkages and to dismantle the entire network, he said.
