Kochi, March 13 The current situation in West Asia will not have any immediate negative impact on Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), the country's leading public sector company.
However, if such conditions persist for more than a year, the company could be affected, the official said.
Speaking to a group of journalists visiting Kerala about the potential impact of the ongoing conflict in West Asia on the company, the official said, "This type of global tension does not affect our shipbuilding industry."
Another official said that due to advance orders and less dependence on foreign sources for raw materials, the shipbuilding industry is likely to remain unaffected.
A significant portion of the company's construction work is linked to the Indian Navy's defence projects.
He said that 65 per cent of the total orders are from the domestic defence sector, 20 per cent from exports, 8 per cent from the commercial segment, and 7 per cent for ship repairs.
The senior CSL official said that within the next six months, CSL is scheduled to deliver ships to several European countries, including Norway and Cyprus.
He added that the company has also received a Rs 5,000 crore order from the Ministry of Defence to build five next-generation survey vessels for the Indian Navy.
