March 16, New Delhi — At least ten patients were killed after a major fire broke out in the ICU of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack early Monday morning.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi rushed to the hospital and expressed deep grief over the loss of lives. He has ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident and directed authorities to move patients to safe locations while ensuring uninterrupted treatment.

Around 11 hospital staff members suffered burn injuries while rescuing patients. A compensation of ₹25 lakh has been announced for the next of kin of the deceased.

The Chief Minister also met with patients and their relatives, assuring them of support and directing officials to strengthen fire safety systems in hospitals across the state.
