Cyber Criminals Target Doctor with 'Bill Not Paid' Ruse.webp

Mumbai, April 10 A 72-year-old doctor was conned out of Rs 10 lakh by cyber criminals posing as Mahanagar Gas Limited employees, a police official said on Friday.

Dr. Neelkamal Harishchandra Tandon received a call claiming that he had not paid his gas bill, and that his supply would be discontinued, according to the Chembur police station official.

"The caller asked him to download a file to complete the online bill payment. After he downloaded the link, the accused gained access to his bank account. They transferred Rs 10 lakh from it to another account," the official said.

A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, he said.
