Chandigarh, February 19 The servers used to send bomb hoax emails have been traced to Bangladesh, said Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Thursday.
He said similar emails have been received across almost all of India.
"Our investigation into many such emails is at an advanced stage. But I can confirm that the servers have been traced to Bangladesh. Our operation, in cooperation with international agencies, is ongoing," Yadav told reporters in Jalandhar.
"We take full precautions when such emails are received. Wherever we receive information, we check the relevant locations," he said.
The officer said the threats were made to create panic, but "we cannot rule out the involvement of foreign powers."
Bomb hoaxes across several schools, the Punjab Secretariat, and district courts in Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala, Mohali, and Haryana, triggered evacuations and prompted authorities to conduct anti-sabotage checks.
"We will ensure the safety and security of the state," he asserted.
In a separate comment, Yadav cited crime statistics, emphasizing that the state's crime rate is lower than the national average.
He said the national average crime rate per lakh of population is 450, while Punjab's crime rate is 227.
Regarding violent crimes, Yadav said the national average is 32 per lakh of population, whereas it is 20 in Punjab.
