
JAMMU, MARCH 31: Minister Javid Ahmad Dar informed the Legislative Assembly that the government is implementing multiple initiatives to strengthen the dairy sector in Shangus–Anantnag East, focusing on entrepreneurship, self-employment, and sustainable livelihoods for rural youth and farmers.
Responding to a question by MLA Reyaz Ahmad Khan during the Budget Session, the Minister said steps are being taken to modernize dairy farming, including artificial insemination under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission and livestock vaccination under the National Animal Disease Control Programme.
He added that farmer training and awareness programmes are being conducted under the Krishonnati Yojana, while financial and technical support is being provided through schemes like the Integrated Dairy Development Scheme and the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme.
Efforts are also underway to strengthen dairy infrastructure through milk collection units, chilling plants, and processing facilities for products like paneer, ghee, and butter.
Over the past two years, hundreds of beneficiaries in the constituency have been supported under various schemes, including assistance for fodder development, dairy start-ups, and access to credit through the Kisan Credit Card.
The Minister said these initiatives are boosting income, employment, and entrepreneurship, and assured continued efforts to further expand and strengthen the dairy sector in the region.
