
Jaipur, March 29 A man and his nephew drowned in the Meja dam in the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan on Sunday, according to police.
The incident occurred near the Sameliya village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Mandal police station, Station House Officer Ayush Shrotriya said.
Dalchand (25) had gone to graze cattle at the dam along with his nephew, Bhairu alias Hariom (11). During this time, a buffalo entered the deep water, and both of them attempted to rescue the animal.
Police said that the two men failed to assess the depth of the water and drowned.
Hearing their cries, people working in nearby fields rushed to the spot and tried to rescue them, but were unsuccessful.
Divers were later called in, and after nearly an hour of efforts, the bodies were recovered from the water, police said.
The bodies were taken to the morgue of the Mandal sub-district hospital, they added.
