Los Angeles, February 21 – English actor Daniel Radcliffe has spoken about the late actor Michael Gambon's behavior on the sets of the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise.
The actor said that Gambon would "play pranks all the time" while filming the Harry Potter movies, according to ‘Female First UK’.
The 36-year-old actor became famous for playing the boy wizard in J.K. Rowling's movie series, and he always enjoyed filming scenes with the veteran actor.
According to ‘Female First UK’, the actor died in September 2023 at the age of 82, and played the role of Albus Dumbledore in the film. Daniel said that he never took the work too seriously and enjoyed trying to make his co-stars laugh.
Speaking on First We Feast's Hot Ones, Daniel said, "Michael Gambon, may he rest in peace, was an incredible man. He would always play pranks. Sometimes, he would try to make me laugh".
Daniel noted that Michael, who took over the role of Dumbledore from the third movie, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, after Richard Harris' death in 2002, had a different approach to acting compared to other actors.
He said, "Some actors like to create an air of mystery and being enigmatic. Michael Gambon would arrive on set and ask, 'What's the shot?' And I would say, 'Oh, there are cameras here, Michael,' but he would still look in a different direction and say, 'What is this BOHNAR?' I would then ask, 'Sorry, what is that?' And he would reply, 'Look at the back of your head, no acting required?' And it was like, 'Yes, yes, that's exactly what we need'".
Daniel also noted that Imelda Staunton, who played Dolores Umbridge, had a similar relaxed attitude between takes.
He said, "Imelda was the same, she would not play pranks like Michael Gambon, but she would chat with everyone about anything, and then when it was time to act, she was completely focused and very good. It's the people who can do the work without constantly making you aware of how hard they're working who seem the coolest".
