As the March 31 deadline for paying water bills approaches, Devansh Yadav, Commissioner of the Jammu Municipal Corporation, has issued directives to encourage public participation and streamline the collection process across the city.
Acting on these directives, the Jal Shakti Department, particularly its Divisions 1 and 2 under JMC jurisdiction, has launched an extensive awareness and facilitation campaign. As part of this initiative, 12 camps have been set up across Jammu to educate residents and provide on-the-spot bill payment facilities.
The camps are located in Roopnagar, Dhonthli, Resham Ghar, Janipur, and Hazuri Bagh (under Division 1), and in Kunjwani, Trikuta Nagar, Sainik Colony, Digiana Ashram, Channi Himmat, Channi Rama, and Greater Kailash (under Division 2).
Officials said the camps are seeing active participation, with staff assisting residents, answering their questions, and facilitating immediate payments. The initiative aims to improve revenue collection and promote civic responsibility, as approximately ₹30 crore in water dues remain outstanding across the city, impacting maintenance and infrastructure upgrades.
Executive Engineer Tajinder Pal Singh cautioned that strict action may be taken against defaulters after the deadline, including the disconnection of water supply.
The department has urged consumers to utilize the camps and clear outstanding dues promptly to avoid inconvenience.
