
New Delhi, April 1 An investigation has been ordered by a magistrate into the death of a 32-year-old Nigerian national under mysterious circumstances following his apprehension by police in west Delhi, official sources said on Wednesday.
According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday evening when a patrol team spotted a man riding a scooter on the wrong side of the road near the Rajouri Garden metro station and signaled him to stop. The rider allegedly crashed the scooter into a police motorcycle, fell off the vehicle, and then attempted to flee, before being apprehended.
He was taken to the special staff office near Tagore Garden for questioning, where he complained of feeling unwell. Police rushed him to the Guru Gobind Singh Hospital in Khyala, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The deceased was identified as Christian Eze Promise. Police said the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Nigerian High Commission were informed of the incident, while a separate investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the man's death.
