Debate on Electoral Reforms and SIR Demand in Rajya Sabha

Debate on Electoral Reforms and SIR Demand in Rajya Sabha.webp

Today, the Rajya Sabha commenced its session with Union Ministers presenting reports from various ministries and departments. Members of the House also presented reports from parliamentary committees.

During Zero Hour, TMC MP Derek O'Brien demanded a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) carried out by the Election Commission in various states, including West Bengal.

Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge also demanded a debate on electoral reforms in the House. Amidst slogans, the opposition walked out of the House. Responding to their demands, Leader of the House JP Nadda criticized them and stated that the opposition does not want a real debate within the House.

He also condemned the opposition for raising the issue of SIR within the House, even after the discussion on electoral reforms had already taken place. Mr. Nadda said that the opposition has once again walked out and does not want any discussion in the House.
