Defense Secretary Initiates Early Retirement for Army Chief.webp

April 03, New Delhi – U.S. Army Chief of Staff General Randy George has been asked to step down and retire immediately by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

George, an infantry officer with service in Iraq and Afghanistan, was confirmed as Army chief in 2023. The position typically has a four-year term.

Prior to becoming Army chief, George served as the vice chief of the Army and earlier as a senior military advisor to then-Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

His removal adds to recent leadership changes at the Pentagon, following last year's dismissal of the previous chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General C.Q. Brown, as well as the chief of naval operations and the Air Force vice chief of staff.
