New Delhi, March 17 The Delhi government has decided to develop a global tourist hub in the city under the Centre's 'One State: One Global Destination' scheme, officials said on Tuesday.

The government's Tourism Department has started the process of hiring a consultant to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) and assist in obtaining necessary approvals from various agencies, as well as seeking funds from the Centre, they said.

The project aims to promote tourism and support excellence in the city's creative arts, literature, local culture, and traditions. It is estimated to cost around ₹500 crore and will be completed in three years.

A suitable site for the project has not yet been finalized by the government, according to a senior government official.

The Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) intends to obtain financial assistance from the central government for the project, for which the consultant will be responsible for preparing a conceptual plan. It will also assist DTTDC in obtaining approval from the government and other agencies, securing funds, and implementing the project, the officials said.

The central government's Tourism Ministry has aimed to develop over 50 globally benchmarked tourist destinations across the country, involving private investment and performance-linked incentives.

In a meeting of tourism ministers from various states and Union Territories (UTs), ways to advance Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "One State: One Global Destination", a key initiative announced in the Union Budget 2025-26, were discussed in detail.

The vision aims to develop at least one globally benchmarked tourist destination in every state and UT, aligning with India's broader Viksit Bharat roadmap, the officials said.

The initiative involves two strategies: destination development and destination management, focusing on iconic destinations. Delhi, as an old city with vast historical and cultural richness, fits the bill, the officials said.

Several world-renowned monuments, old markets, and unique cuisines of the city can be leveraged in conceptualizing and implementing the global tourism hub in the national capital, they said.

The project will focus on private sector-led tourism hub development, with a strong emphasis on performance-linked incentives to ensure high standards of destination management, they added.
