New Delhi, March 13 Ahead of the Special Intensive Revision of the voter lists in the national capital, the Election Commission has designated Additional District Magistrates (ADMs) and Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) as electoral registration officers (EROs) for all 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi.
The office of the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) is preparing for the SIR exercise, and currently, the mapping of voters from the 2025 voter rolls is being done in relation to the voters from the base year 2002.
There were 1.55 crore voters in the Delhi assembly elections for the 70 seats held in February 2025.
A recent gazette notification stated that the Election Commission of India has designated additional district magistrates (ADMs) and Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) as EROs, in consultation with the Delhi government.
Another notification said that the same officers would also serve as returning officers for these assembly constituencies.
Furthermore, district magistrates have been designated as District Election Officers (DEOs) for the 13 districts in the national capital, reflecting the recent reorganization of districts in Delhi, which has increased from the previous 11 to 13, officials said.
The CEO's office is preparing for the SIR, and various forms needed for the exercise are being printed out.
In February, the Election Commission of India announced that the SIR is expected to begin in April 2026 and instructed the CEOs of various states, including Delhi, to complete the necessary preparatory work as soon as possible.
The Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit households daily to gather electoral details from each voter for mapping the electoral roll of 2025 based on data from 2002.
Recently, the Delhi CEO's office requested an exemption for approximately 7,500 school teachers, who are deployed for the SIR, from census-related duties.
The Houselisting and Housing phase of the 2027 Census is also scheduled to start from April 15.
A senior revenue department officer mentioned that approximately 8,000 to 10,000 government employees assigned to the census work would be exempted from their duties. The department will seek assistance from the government to obtain additional employees from various departments to support census operations, he said.
Currently, there are 13,033 polling stations in Delhi. Approximately 7,500 teachers from Delhi government schools and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have been assigned as BLOs and BLO Supervisors, according to the CEO's office.
