Delhi Court Extends Police Custody of IYC President Chib.webp

A Delhi court today granted four days of police custody for Uday Bhanu Chib, the president of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), in connection with the protest held at Bharat Mandapam during the India AI Impact Summit 2026.

According to officials, Chib is accused of being the main instigator and mastermind behind the unlawful assembly at the AI Impact Summit venue, and was reportedly involved in raising anti-national slogans. The Delhi Police alleged that Chib, in conspiracy with co-accused Shree Krishna Hari, Kundan Yadav, Narsimha Yadav, and Ajay Kumar Yadav, obstructed and assaulted police officials on duty and during questioning. The police stated that the investigation into the case is ongoing, and Chib's custody has been sought for further questioning and a thorough investigation.

Chib was arrested under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including section 196, which deals with promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, or language – a non-bailable offense. The ongoing investigation into the Indian Youth Congress protest during the summit has been transferred to the Delhi Police Crime Branch.
