Delhi Court Orders Custody in Janakpuri Motorcycle Accident Case

Delhi Court Orders Custody in Janakpuri Motorcycle Accident Case.webp

New Delhi, March 10 A Delhi court on Tuesday ordered the contractor to be held in one day's judicial custody, after he was arrested in connection with the death of a bank employee following an accident involving his motorcycle in Janakpuri.

The contractor, Himanshu Gupta, had been evading arrest and was apprehended in Udaipur, Rajasthan, on Tuesday morning after a sustained police search, officials said.

The Delhi Police produced Gupta before Duty Magistrate Anuradha Sonkar, who ordered his detention for one day.

The case concerns the death of Kamal Dhyani, who worked as an assistant manager at the Rohini branch of HDFC Bank, on the night of February 5, after his motorcycle fell into a 15-foot-deep sewage pit, allegedly left open during work being carried out by the Delhi Jal Board in Janakpuri.

Last month, the Delhi High Court refused to grant anticipatory bail to two contractors, Himanshu Gupta and Kavish Gupta, observing that public roads should not become death traps.
