New Delhi, March 7 A factory owner and his son died after falling into a well at a pickle manufacturing unit in Nangloi, a suburb of Delhi, on Saturday evening, police said.
The police were alerted by a caller who reported that two or three people had fallen into a well at a factory in Rao Vihar, where pickles are processed.
The manufacturing unit was located on the ground floor of a residential building, while its 60-year-old owner, Anil, lived on the first floor with his family.
During the investigation, it was learned that the factory had four to five wells, each about 10 feet deep, where pickles were processed and stored.
"On Saturday, a worker entered one of the wells to work, but reportedly fainted due to lack of oxygen," an officer said.
Seeing the worker collapse, the factory owner and his two sons, Neeraj, 32, and Sandeep, 28, also went down the well to rescue him.
However, they too fainted due to lack of oxygen, the officer said.
All four were pulled out of the well by Anil's brother, Subhash, and other locals who rushed to the scene.
While the worker and Sandeep regained consciousness, Anil and his son Neeraj remained unresponsive, the police said.
They were taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where doctors pronounced them both dead.
An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the incident and whether safety protocols were followed at the factory.
