New Delhi, April 2 The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) on Thursday urged lawyers to refrain from work on the first and third Saturdays of every month, which were declared as court-sitting days by the high court earlier this year.
In a notice, the DHCBA informed that on March 27, it unanimously resolved to abstain from work on the two working Saturdays after the high court did not reconsider its decision despite multiple representations.
"Therefore, all members of the Delhi High Court Bar Association are requested to cooperate and refrain from work on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of every month, starting from 04.04.2026. Furthermore, it is informed that proxy counsels shall be designated for each court on these days," the notice said.
The DHCBA said its executive committee considered the representations received from the members of the Bar, which highlighted "serious practical difficulties" in having working Saturdays.
The notice noted that the arrangement caused significant disruption to the professional schedules of lawyers, including appearances before various tribunals, arbitrations, mediation and courts outside Delhi.
The arrangement also adversely impacted preparation time, client meetings, and overall professional efficiency, it noted.
The Delhi High Court on January 15 notified that it would hold court on the first and third Saturday of every month.
A decision to this effect was taken by the full court of the high court on December 22, 2025.
