New Delhi, March 10 Over 2,000 film entries have been received for the inaugural edition of the International Film Festival Delhi, scheduled to be held in the national capital from March 25.
Reflecting strong interest from filmmakers worldwide, 2,098 films from India and abroad have been submitted for the festival, according to an official.
Of these, 1,151 are international non-feature films, 668 are Indian non-feature films, 221 are international feature films and 147 are Indian feature films, he said.
He said that 125 Indian and international films will be selected from all the applications and screened during the seven-day festival, which will take place from March 25 to 31 at multiple venues across New Delhi, including Bharat Mandapam.
Additional venues where films will be screened are multiplex cinemas across the city, cultural and open-air spaces and pop-up screening zones, he added.
The festival was formally launched earlier by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who unveiled its official logo at a curtain-raiser event organised by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC).
Speaking at the event, Gupta said the festival aims to position Delhi as a global hub of cinema, art and culture while remaining a public and city-wide celebration rather than a closed industry event.
"Delhi has always shaped culture, not followed it. With the International Film Festival Delhi, we are creating a public festival that belongs to the people of this city," she had said.
According to the government, the festival is also linked to Delhi's upcoming film policy, which focuses on single-window clearances, production support and industry partnerships to make the capital more attractive for film shoots.
Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra said the initiative seeks to bring global cinema closer to citizens while strengthening institutional support for filmmakers.
The programme is expected to include gala premieres, masterclasses, industry roundtables, workshops, film markets and cultural performances, apart from neighbourhood screenings and other public events across the city, the official said.
