New Delhi, April 1 The Aam Aadmi Party launched an attack on the BJP government on Wednesday, alleging that the national capital is currently facing a serious security crisis, following a bomb threat received via email to the office of Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, which triggered a police search operation.
Following the receipt of information about the threat, thorough checks were conducted at the premises, and it was later declared a hoax. The Delhi Police had earlier stated this.
According to a senior police officer, the email was purportedly sent in the name of a group identifying itself as "Khalistan National Army." Security around the mayor's office was tightened, and thorough checks were conducted, he said.
The threat was sent to the mayor's official email address, claiming that the office would be blown up around 2:11 pm. The police said that cyber teams are analyzing the origin of the email, and efforts are underway to trace the sender.
"In response to the email received regarding an alleged threat to blow up the Mayor of Delhi with a bomb, it is submitted that immediate verification and necessary action were undertaken," the Delhi Police stated in a statement.
It added that authorities inspected parking areas, the basement, the mayor's office, and other offices within the Civic Centre. During the inspection, no suspicious object or activity was found at the Civic Centre.
Aam Aadmi Party councillor and Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Ankush Narang, criticized the BJP in a post on X, stating that the BJP's four-engine government has failed Delhi's security system, and even the mayor is not safe.
"The national capital, Delhi, is currently facing a serious security crisis. The situation has become so alarming that the city's first citizen, the BJP's mayor, is also not safe," Narang said in the post.
He added that this incident clearly shows that under the BJP's rule, law and order have completely collapsed.
"The continuous threats are a signal that the security system in the capital has become extremely weak, and both the general public and elected representatives are in danger," it said.
In a statement, the mayor said, "Following the security checks, normal functioning has resumed at our office. We urge people not to pay heed to rumors, and such threats will not affect administrative work or public services."
He said a similar threat was received in 2022, which was also thoroughly investigated, adding that often such messages are sent to create panic.
