New Delhi, March 11 A 50-member delegation met Delhi Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh on Wednesday and raised the issue of granting "Bhumidari" or ownership rights to agricultural land allotees under Section 74(4) of the Delhi Land Reforms Act, 1954.
The delegation, led by Satya Narayan, president of the Delhi Dehat Dalit Pichhda Jan Kalyan Manch, included the forum's chairman, Mangat Ram, vice-president Preet, and other members, according to a statement.
During the meeting with Singh, who holds the social welfare portfolio, among others, the delegation stated that families of agricultural land allotees have long been awaiting ownership rights to the land allocated to them under government welfare initiatives.
They said that granting Bhumidari rights under Section 74(4) of the Delhi Land Reforms Act, linked to the "20-Point Programme," would significantly strengthen the social and economic position of the beneficiary families.
The delegation also submitted a detailed memorandum outlining their demands to the minister, the statement said.
Responding to the concerns, Singh said that the Delhi government remains committed to the welfare and empowerment of underprivileged and backward communities.
He assured the delegation that the demand for granting Bhumidari rights would be taken up with the concerned officials and departments with due seriousness so that the required process can be advanced.
Singh also said that the government is guided by the principles of social justice and equal opportunity and will examine the issue raised by the delegation in coordination with the concerned authorities for necessary action, the statement said.
