New Delhi, April 8 Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday directed the MCD to strengthen waste management and cleanliness systems, warning against delays and lapses in civic services.

Gupta posted on X that at a review meeting on the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) works, a series of instructions have been issued, aimed at improving sanitation and infrastructure across the city.

"State-of-the-art waste-to-energy plants with modern technology will be set up in Ghazipur, Narela, Okhla and Tekhand," she posted on X.

The meeting also decided to redevelop around 1,000 toilet and urinal blocks operated by the civic body, while three new gobar gas plants will soon come up in Goyla Dairy, Ghogha and Ghazipur, it added.

According to the post, officials were asked to put in place a strict mechanism to ensure effective recovery of enhanced fines imposed on those found spreading filth. The MCD was also told to coordinate with the Delhi Development Authority to ensure regular and systematic cleaning of markets.

The chief minister said special drives will be carried out to remove garbage along railway tracks in a more effective and sustained manner.

On infrastructure, Gupta directed that experienced companies be assigned road construction and repair works to ensure quality and accountability, and asked officials to closely monitor all projects and complete them within stipulated timelines.

The meeting was attended by Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma, Leader of the House Pravesh Wahi, Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma and Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, along with other senior officials, the post read.
