Over 3.7 Lakh Saplings to Be Planted Under 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' Campaign​

New Delhi, May 6 – The Directorate of Education, Delhi, has announced the launch of a large-scale Greening and Tree Plantation Drive to enhance the green cover in and around school campuses. Scheduled to run from July 1 to July 27, the initiative aligns with the celebration of Hariyali Teej and aims to instill eco-consciousness among students.

According to a circular issued on Sunday, the campaign has been approved by the Department of Forest and Wildlife, and will see the planting of 3.7 lakh saplings across schools in the capital.

Free Saplings and Participation Mandate​

Each participating school will receive free saplings from designated government nurseries. Schools are required to plant a minimum of 350 saplings, including:
  • 100 trees
  • 180 shrubs
  • 70 bamboo plants
The Heads of Schools (HoSs) and Eco-Club in-charges have been tasked with spearheading the campaign, with the active involvement of both students and staff.

Awareness Activities and Monthly Reporting​

To deepen the impact of the campaign, schools have been directed to organize awareness activities such as:

  • Poster-making contests
  • Role plays and street theatre (nukkad nataks)
  • Essay and slogan writing competitions
Monthly progress reports will need to be submitted to the respective Science Centres for monitoring and evaluation.

Featured on ‘Meri LiFE’ Portal​

The campaign will be conducted under the theme "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" and will be prominently showcased on the 'Meri LiFE' portal maintained by the Department of Forest and Wildlife.

The Directorate of Education has urged all schools and officials to collaborate closely to ensure the campaign’s success and contribute meaningfully to creating a greener and cleaner Delhi.
