New Delhi, March 15 Strongly refuting Rahul Gandhi's allegations of caste-based bias in admissions, Delhi University (DU) released data on student enrollment for the academic year 2025-26 through CUET on Sunday and urged the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha to refrain from making "unsubstantiated" statements.

"The University of Delhi implements all its statutory mandates in the true spirit of the Constitution of India, as clearly reflected in our transparent admission and recruitment processes," the University said in a post on X.

According to DU data for postgraduate students enrolled in the 2025-26 academic session based on CUET, there were a total of 4,022 (38.59 per cent) students in the unreserved (UR) category, 3,115 (29.88 per cent) in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, 1,488 (14.27 per cent) in the Scheduled Caste (SC) category, 614 (5.89 per cent) in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category, and 1,203 (11.54 per cent) in the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category. The total number of postgraduate students enrolled was 10,422.

Data for undergraduate programs for the 2025-26 academic session showed that 32,777 (46.56 per cent) students were enrolled under the UR category, 17,971 (25.52 per cent) under OBC, 10,517 (14.93 per cent) under SC, and 3,251 (4.62 per cent) and 5,879 (8.35 per cent) respectively under ST and EWS categories. The total number of enrolled undergraduate students was 70,395.

"We urge the Leader of the Opposition to refrain from making unsubstantiated statements. Such remarks undermine the healthy learning environment at the University," the university said in its post.

Gandhi had made the controversial remarks on Friday while addressing an event in Lucknow to mark the birth anniversary of Bahujan Samaj Party founder Kanshi Ram.

"I went to Delhi University. The interview is just a way to eliminate students. They ask what your caste is, and then you fail in the interview," Gandhi had said.

Responding to the allegations, the DU had on Saturday said that the university primarily admits students based on Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores, and the standard admission process does not mandate interviews for most undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

In the Sunday post, the DU also shared data for the appointments of teachers (including librarian and physical education) from 2021 to March 15, 2025.

According to the data, in the period mentioned, 2,123 (41.99 per cent) appointments have been made under the UR category, 717 (14.18 per cent) under the SC category, 349 (6.90 per cent) under the ST category, 1,282 (25.35 per cent) under the OBC category, 422 (8.35 per cent) and 163 (3.22 per cent) respectively under the EWS and PwD categories. The total number of recruitments stood at 5,056.
