New Delhi, March 17 The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Tuesday began work on a pilot project to provide 24-hour water supply in parts of Chanakyapuri, also announcing beautification works at a temple inside Nehru Park.
According to an official statement, NDMC Vice-Chairperson Kuljeet Chahal laid the foundation stone for Phase I of the water supply project at Vinay Marg – expected to benefit around 550 households in the area.
Officials said the Rs 1.38-crore project will upgrade the existing system with modern pump sets, automation and monitoring tools, including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, to ensure a steady supply of clean drinking water. The work is likely to be completed in about five months.
Officials said for residents in the diplomatic enclave, where supply disruptions and pressure issues are not uncommon, the project is expected to bring more predictability in daily water supply.
Chahal said the civic body has also started the process of appointing a consultant for a broader plan to implement the 24x7 water supply mechanism across NDMC areas.
Separately, NDMC will carry out beautification and basic facility upgrades at Bhairo Mandir in Nehru Park, including improvement of pathways, railings and the temple surroundings. The work, costing around Rs 11 lakh, is expected to be completed within a month, officials said.
The initiatives are part of efforts to improve civic amenities in the capital, they added.
