Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia stated today that the Department of Posts has launched the Mail Parcel Optimization Project (MPOP) to redesign workflows and improve efficiency across the parcel value chain. While answering supplementary questions in the Lok Sabha, Mr. Scindia noted that as part of the MPOP initiative, the parcel network and delivery centers have been streamlined, and a nationwide road transport network has been established to support the growing parcel and e-commerce sectors. He added that the Advanced Postal Technology platform was also introduced last year for real-time tracking of articles and digitalization of services.

Mr. Scindia also stated that over the past three years, the Department has undertaken various initiatives to upgrade and modernize the infrastructure of post offices and mail and parcel processing hubs across all districts in the country. These measures have enhanced parcel handling capacity, and the number of parcels handled increased from 9.72 crore parcels in the fiscal year 2020-21 to 14.5 crore parcels in the fiscal year 2024-25.

The Minister further highlighted that the launch of 24 and 48-hour guaranteed delivery mail and 24-hour delivery parcel products yesterday covers identified domestic routes. He also noted that to promote cross-border e-commerce, the International Tracked Packet Service was launched in 2017, while Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras have been established to facilitate exports by MSMEs, e-commerce sellers, farmers, and others. Mr. Scindia added that the Department of Posts has entered strategic partnerships with several major e-commerce platforms and the Open Network for Digital Commerce platform.
