Hyderabad, April 7 Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy visited the Karreguttalu hills, a densely forested area in the Mulugu district of Telangana bordering Chhattisgarh, on Tuesday, and declared the area free from Naxal influence.
During the visit, he laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects in the Pamunuru village in the district, a police release said.
Addressing a gathering, the DGP affirmed that there is no Naxal presence in the Karreguttalu region (which was once a stronghold of the Naxals) and assured sustained support for the development and welfare of the Guthi Koya tribal community in the area.
He announced initiatives to develop Karreguttalu, renowned for its scenic natural beauty, into a prominent tourist destination, it said.
The foundation stone was also laid for a new police outpost to ensure the safety and security of tourists, it said.
Additionally, an 'inter‑agency coordination centre' would be established to enhance collaboration among the Forest Department, Revenue Department, CRPF, and Police Department.
The DGP extended substantial welfare assistance, comprising an auto‑rickshaw, a two‑wheeler, and monthly essential provisions, to seven indigent families of Pamunuru village.
Later in the day, the DGP visited the Forward Operating Base (FOB) of 39 Battalion, CRPF, at Pamunuru and interacted with the jawans deployed there, it added.
He commended their dedicated service and underscored the need for close coordination between the Police and CRPF to ensure strategic dominance in the Karreguttalu hills to sustain the area as Naxal‑free and maintain long‑term security in the region.
The DGP, along with Telangana Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), Suvarna, inaugurated a women‑led nursery at Mormoru.
The project aims to promote women’s participation in afforestation and generate sustainable livelihoods through nursery‑based activities, the release said.
The DGP also attended a Road Safety Awareness Programme – “ARRIVE ALIVE” - conducted under the supervision of Venkatapuram Police.
The programmes were organised under the supervision of Mulugu district Superintendent of Police Sudhir R Kekan.
Senior officials, including ADG of police Anil Kumar, IG of Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) B Sumathi, and CRPF IG Vikram, were present on the occasion.
