Erode (Tamil Nadu), March 31 The annual Kundam (fire walking) festival was celebrated on Tuesday with religious fervor in Bannari, this district. The popular festival was conducted peacefully at the Bannariamman temple, located 10 km away from Sathyamangalam at 3 am.
Thousands of devotees from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka (especially from Mysore, Kollehal, Chamrajnagar, etc.) participated in the fire walking. Some farmers walked alongside their cattle. Some women carried their children with them and walked over the 'kundam'.
Heavy police personnel were stationed to prevent any incidents.
