Mumbai, February 7 The phenomenal success of Ranveer Singh's "Dhurandhar: The Revenge" has prompted the makers of "Bhooth Bangla", which marks superstar Akshay Kumar's reunion with Priyadarshan, to postpone its release by a week.
In a statement, producer Ekta Kapoor said that the film will now be released on April 16, shifting from its earlier date of April 10, and the first show will start at 9 pm.
She said that this move will allow both "Bhooth Bangla" and "Dhurandhar: The Revenge" to receive "the attention they deserve".
"After a collective discussion with our distributors and exhibitors, we have decided on a new release date for Bhooth Bangla, April 16, with the first show starting at 9 pm," Kapoor said.
"The exceptional performance of 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' is heartening news for our film industry, and the exhibitors feel that this shift will allow both films to receive the space, focus, and attention they deserve. The 'Bhooth Bangla' team looks forward to welcoming you in cinemas on April 16th, starting at 9 pm," Kapoor said.
"Dhurandhar: The Revenge" is a sequel to filmmaker Aditya Dhar's 2025 blockbuster "Dhurandhar". The movie was released in theaters on March 19 and has grossed over Rs 1300 crore at the global box office.
The decision to release on April 16 marks the second time "Bhooth Bangla" has changed its release date. It was originally slated for May 15.
Kumar has worked with veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan on several hit comedies such as “Hera Pheri”, “Garam Masala”, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa”, and “Bhagam Bhag”. They last collaborated on “Khatta Meetha” in 2010.
Besides Akshay, the movie will also feature Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Tabu and Rajpal Yadav.
Presented by Balaji Motion Pictures, a division of Balaji Telefilms Ltd, in association with Cape of Good Films, the film is produced by Akshay Kumar, Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa Kapoor.
Akshay and Priyadarshan are currently working on two more projects — “Haiwaan”, which will also star Saif Ali Khan, and the third part of the "Hera Pheri" franchise.
