
Mumbai, March 28 The Chikhli police in Buldhana district of Maharashtra have registered an FIR against a petrol pump owner for allegedly selling 200 litres of diesel in a container, an official said on Saturday.
The action was taken after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
The video showed a man arriving at the petrol pump in a tempo with a 200-litre water tank.
The pump employee filled the tank with diesel, and the man left.
Based on a complaint filed by the Chikhli Tehsildar, a case was registered against the owner of Renuka Petroleum under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 223 (disobeying the lawful order of a public servant) and 287 (negligent handling of combustible material), the official said.
Petrol pumps are experiencing a heavy rush due to rumors of shortages amid the conflict in West Asia.
In a related incident, a petrol pump operator was allegedly assaulted in Wanadgaon village in Jalna taluka after he refused to supply 1,000 litres of diesel to some people.
The incident was captured on CCTV cameras, and a non-cognizable offence has been registered at the Jalna Taluka Police Station, the official added.
