South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved a significant digital milestone by launching a next-generation "Rail Parcel App" at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad. This innovative digital e-marketplace aims to revolutionize freight logistics by offering seamless end-to-end services, including doorstep pickup and delivery. General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava inaugurated the application, emphasizing its role in eliminating long queues and bringing the parcel office directly to the customer's fingertips.
The app features real-time tracking, automated notifications, and secure digital payment options. Initially, the service is being rolled out as a pilot project across seven major locations, including Hyderabad, Vijayawada, and Bengaluru. In a parallel strategic move, SCR signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IIM Bangalore to conduct a comprehensive study on the freight logistics market. This collaboration seeks to identify infrastructure gaps and enhance rail-based logistics to help achieve the national mission of transporting 300 million tonnes of cargo by 2030.
