March 19, New Delhi: Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva attended the signing of a new Digital Statute aimed at restricting minors' access to social media, as Brazil moves to strengthen online safety for children.

The new law requires stricter age verification and links accounts of users under 16 to a legal guardian, while also mandating platforms to block harmful content and remove material related to exploitation.

Authorities said the move follows concerns over online abuse and aims to curb exposure to violent and inappropriate content, with penalties for companies that fail to comply.
