
New Delhi, March 30 A man drowned after accidentally falling into a drain while cleaning it in the Dilshad Garden area of east Delhi on Monday, a Delhi Fire Services official said.
According to the DFS, information about the incident was received around 2 pm, following which rescue teams were rushed to the spot.
On arrival, it was found that the man had fallen into a drain and drowned, the official said, adding that a rescue operation was launched with the assistance of the DFS, Boat Club, and other local responders.
After sustained efforts, the man was pulled out of the drain and immediately rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, where he was declared dead, the official said.
Police said that they received a PCR call at the Seemapuri police station regarding the incident.
"Two daily wage workers were assigned to clean the drain in Q Pocket in the Dilshad Garden area. One of them, identified as Capital (32), was tasked with removing silt from the drain, while his colleague, Rahul (33), slipped and drowned," the official said.
The body was taken out of the drain and sent to GTB Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. Rahul was a resident of Sundar Nagari.
The police said that an FIR under Section 106(1) of the BNS (causing death by negligence) is registered, and further investigation into the matter is underway.
