Trichy, Mar 11 AMMK chief TTV Dinakaran on Wednesday countered Chief Minister MK Stalin's remark that the 2026 Assembly elections would be a "fight between Tamil Nadu and Delhi," accusing Stalin of attacking the AIADMK-led alliance in the state and asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi "shares a close connection" with Tamil Nadu.
Addressing the NDA rally here, presided over by PM Modi, Dinakaran said Stalin often claims that the upcoming Assembly elections are a battle between Tamil Nadu and Delhi.
"We would like to tell him that the PM can only govern from Delhi, not from Chennai; Is the CM aware of this? Is he speaking out of fear? It remains to be seen," he said.
Dinakaran said, despite the PM governing from Delhi, he belongs to Gujarat, which has historical links to Tamil Nadu.
Citing historical and Tamil literary references that speak of Dwaraka in Gujarat and the reign of the 'Velirs' who ruled the western parts in ancient times, he said they also ruled Tamil Nadu in later times.
Dinakaran criticized the DMK regime as being against the people and praised PM Modi for maintaining ancient links in modern times through initiatives like the Kashi Tamil Sangamam. Therefore, PM Modi has a "close connection" with Tamil Nadu, he added.
Notably, Dinakaran praised AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami, his former archrival, as "Pachai Tamilar" (Real Tamil).
