Discom Dues Review: Delhi to Investigate Payment Issues

Discom Dues Review: Delhi to Investigate Payment Issues.webp

New Delhi, March 30 Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood said on Monday that the Delhi government will conduct a CAG audit of the discoms in the city to review their repayment of dues amounting to ₹38,000 crore.

Delhi's power regulator, DERC, in an affidavit filed with the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) in January, proposed the liquidation of regulatory assets from April 1.

Regulatory assets are the difference between the cost incurred by discoms in supplying power to consumers and the annual revenue collected. This is realized through a regulatory asset surcharge added to the electricity bills of power consumers.

Sources in the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) said that meetings were underway on the issue, and a final decision regarding tariff revision would be taken on Wednesday.

Sood asserted that the government is committed to protecting the interests of power consumers and will not impose any additional burden on them.

"We will conduct a CAG audit of the discoms. The issue of regulatory assets was created during the previous government in Delhi. How did the discoms function for so many years if they were incurring losses and accumulating dues of such a large amount?" Sood told
