The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, organized the 6th edition of the District Collectors' Peyjal Samvad in New Delhi. While addressing the virtual event, DDWS Secretary Ashok K.K. Meena reviewed the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission's Har Ghar Jal initiative. Highlighting the Mission's journey since its launch in 2019, Mr. Meena noted significant progress despite the challenges.
He stated that while the initial phase focused on rapid infrastructure development, the Mission has now entered a crucial stage centered on community-owned and community-managed rural water service delivery to ensure long-term functionality and quality.
He urged all districts to accelerate scheme implementation, strengthen community-led processes under the Rajya Jal Utsav and Lok Jal Utsav, and intensify efforts to ensure sustainable service delivery, reaffirming the commitment to achieving the vision of safe, adequate drinking water for every rural household.
He stated that while substantial progress has been achieved, the next phase of the Mission requires deeper consolidation with a sharper focus on functionality, sustainability, and community ownership.
Furthermore, the national Jal Mahotsav will be observed from the 8th to the 22nd next month, coinciding with International Women's Day and culminating on World Water Day, with participation across all levels.
