The Health Department began observing "Prevention of Blindness Week" from April 1 to 7 at the Raja Sukhdev Singh District Hospital to raise public awareness about preventing visual impairment.
The week-long campaign aims to educate people on early detection, timely treatment, and proper eye care practices through a series of awareness programs.
Doctors and healthcare staff highlighted major causes of blindness, such as cataracts, glaucoma, and Vitamin A deficiency, emphasizing the importance of regular eye check-ups, balanced nutrition, and preventive care.
Medical Superintendent Shafiq Choudhary said that such initiatives are vital to inform and empower the public. He noted that many causes of blindness are preventable if detected early and managed effectively, urging people to prioritize eye health.
He added that awareness camps will be conducted throughout the week to reach a maximum number of people and promote preventive practices.
The Health Department reiterated its commitment to reducing the burden of visual impairment through sustained awareness drives and accessible healthcare services across the district.
