DJB Updates Billing with Technology & Verification.webp

New Delhi, March 19 The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is set to revamp its billing operations through geo-tagging of consumer properties and other billing reforms, Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said on Thursday.

Singh, who chaired a DJB board meeting, also approved a ₹71.12-crore project for in-situ treatment of wastewater in the Delhi Gate drain.

"People of Delhi want to pay their water bills and fulfill their responsibility. The problem arises when someone suddenly receives an inflated bill, when a meter is not functioning, or when bills don't reach households on time," he said.

This is not merely a technical upgrade, but a step towards restoring confidence in the system. Within six months, every registered consumer is expected to have a verified digital record, reducing disputes and improving service delivery, Singh added.

The DJB plans technology-enabled meter readings with photo capture, GPS tagging for accuracy and accountability, and proper bill delivery with proof of delivery.

The reforms will be implemented at a cost of ₹60 crore.

"Our effort is to fix these gaps at the ground level and build a system that is accurate, transparent, and trustworthy," he added.

"Water billing has become a major source of distress for households, the board has approved a city-wide door-to-door e-KYC and digital database update drive covering nearly 35 lakh consumers," Singh added.

The board also approved a project for large-scale house service sewer connections in Kirari and surrounding areas, benefiting approximately 7.25 lakh residents.
