DMK Partners with DMDK in Assembly Elections.webp

Chennai, March 24 Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK on Tuesday allocated 10 seats to its ally, DMDK, for the April 23 Assembly polls.

DMK President MK Stalin and DMDK general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth signed an agreement at the DMK headquarters, 'Anna Arivalayam', confirming the 10 seats for the DMDK.

Following the Congress party, which has been allocated 28 seats by the DMK, the allocation for the DMDK, founded in 2005 by the late 'Captain' Vijayakanth, is the highest.

Later speaking to reporters, Premalatha Vijayakanth said, "The media has been asking for several days about how many seats the DMDK would contest. This has now been finalized. The DMDK has been allocated 10 seats."

She recalled that the DMK had already offered one Rajya Sabha seat to her party.

"The DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance will win over 200 seats in these Assembly polls, and 'Annan' (meaning elder brother) Stalin will be sworn in as the chief minister for the second time," she said.

Regarding the constituencies her party was keen to contest, Premalatha said that a five-member panel had been formed by the DMDK to discuss the matter.

Responding to a query, she said that about 25 constituencies that the DMDK was keen to contest had been submitted to the DMK.

"Some of the constituencies we have mentioned include Vriddhachalam, Rishivandhiyam, Gudiyatham, Ambur, Virudhunagar, Virugambakkam. We have also submitted those constituencies where we believe the DMDK has the potential to win," she noted.
