Jaipur, April 6 Leader of the Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, Tikaram Jully, on Monday criticised the BJP for celebrating its foundation day according to the Gregorian calendar, alleging "double standards" in its approach.
Jully said it was ironic that the BJP government, which had advocated celebrating Rajasthan Day according to the Hindu calendar, was now observing its own party's foundation day according to the English calendar.
"Why this contradiction? The BJP celebrates its own foundation day according to the English calendar, but wants Rajasthan Day to be marked according to the Hindi Panchang," he said.
Accusing the party of duplicity, the Congress leader said, "You celebrate your own birthday according to the English calendar, then why change Rajasthan Day? What is the problem with that?"
Rajasthan Day is traditionally celebrated on March 30 every year to mark the formation of the state in 1949, when various princely states were merged to create Greater Rajasthan. However, the BJP government has started celebrating the occasion on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, the first day of the Hindu month of Chaitra.
